List-Building
"Buy Or Die" List Building
It is inevitable that almost every list builder becomes infatuated with the phrase ?The Money Is In The List? and we ultimately become what we, ourselves despise? a ?junk mailer?, a ?spammer?, the ?scum of the earth?.
Lists. It seems that we all belong to someone?s list. The longer a person has been using the Internet, the more likely they are to end up on someone?s marketing list.
It is also true that the longer we stay on the Internet, the more often we ?unsubscribe? to lists that we perceive as being ?junk mail?.
Most list builders start off with good intentions. We all strive to give our subscribers good content. We all know that over time, we can become wealthy if we only treat our subscribers with the dignity that they deserve.
It is said that if you treat your subscribers well, they will stay with you until they either ?buy or die?. While that isn?t literally true, you can extend the membership of an average subscriber simply by following a simple concept? keep them happy.
If we only remembered a simple truth, that most people surf the Internet looking for information and not to buy something, we?d all be better off.
What happens? Most of us get greedy. I mean, it is our list after all. We built it. We worked our fingers to the bone to market to these people.
We wrote the sales copy. We paid good money for pay per click advertising. We spent hours writing the articles that drove them to our sites in the first place. We exchanged links. We optimized our pages for the search engines. These subscribers belong to us!
It is precisely that thinking that causes many of us to ultimately fail at Internet marketing. We don?t remember to honor our subscribers by building our brand. Holding ourselves out as the expert in our field. Continuing to provide our subscribers with the content for which they originally subscribed.
Remember, the truly successful marketers who make a consistent living online are the ones who remember that their subscribers are in fact customers. They practice superb ?customer service? and they always over-deliver what their subscribers expect.
When you consistently deliver unique content to your subscribers, they will stay with you until they either ?buy or die?.
